Sets up and operates independently machine shop machines such as 4, 5 and 6 Axis CNC and manual milling
machines, lathes, surface grinders, bench grinders, shapers, planers, horizontal and vertical boring mill, and jig
boring machines. Exercises considerable care of equipment, tools, parts, machines, and materials to prevent damage.
Interprets blueprints, drawings, route sheets, and other specifications to ascertain nature of assigned work orders.
Works from series of drawings which may have section views and which may require computing taper and angle
dimensions, pitch, clearance, tolerance, and fit. Determine own work procedure for assigned number of pieces,
types of metal, types of machines, tools and attachments, speeds and feeds, tolerances and sequences of operations.
Exercises considerable judgment, ingenuity, initiative in the planning, layout and performance of all assignments.
Performs quality machining of materials such as Titanium, copper, brass, tool steels, various stainless steels,
magnesium, nickel, plastics, epoxy fibers, and other materials as required. Uses precision instruments such as
gauge blocks, tool makers, buttons and taper and bevel gauges, air gauges, comparators, indicators, and
micrometers. Assists in estimating or evaluating work as required.
