Director of Business Development, Space Systems

Job Description

Position reports directly to Vice President, Space Systems.  incumbent will recommend, initiate, and coordinate overall business development strategy, planning, communication, and execution at the business-unit level, encompassing the full-range of business unit and company products and services. Incumbent advises the Vice President and business-unit directors in all aspects of business development and pursuit, for government contract, commercial, and defined-product work.  Performs original research to analyze and solve marketing, sales, and business growth challenges.  Maintains consistent contact and active networks within customer executives, government officials, and the research community to promote company products and capabilities for the purpose of growing business.  Contributes directly to the collection of competitive intelligence, analysis, and evaluation.  Leads the identification, qualification, and capture of business opportunities.  Develops stakeholder/customer communications and marketing plans.  Responsible for a varied customer base, including NASA, commercial space, US DoD, and international portfolios. 

Job Requirements

Fifteen (15) or more years of combined NASA/government and private-sector/industry experience required.  Demonstrated experience and success in business opportunity identification, qualification, and pursuit.  Experience in identifying, understanding, and matching client needs to company capabilities related to spaceflight engineering, systems integration, hardware development and manufacturing, test and evaluation, and hardware interoperability. Demonstrated strengths as a personnel manager and team-builder at the GS-15 level or private-sector equivalent.  Proven ability to build relationships across government, private sector, and academia, as a team member, team builder, and team leader.  Successful track record in spaceflight hardware development, business development, and marketing are critical for this position.  

Skill Requirements

Incumbent must have a strong working knowledge of NASA, DoD, and commercial space entity business practices, developed through fifteen (15) or more years of successful leadership and experience in growing business within the space market, within and outside government.  He/she will have built and maintained a strong network within and beyond the space community, which can be leveraged for business growth.  Networks beyond TBE traditional customers and stakeholders will be a plus.  Successful applicants must have the ability to think strategically, to plan and execute.  Strong verbal and written communications skills are required.  Successful candidate must possess a level of business acumen and experience to result in appropriate decision making regarding financial aspects of business opportunities.  He/she must be an excellent and active listener, with strong cultural competency to work successfully across a variety of different organizations, nationalities, and contexts.  An avid learner, with strong commitment to ethics and values.  Self-motivated, passionate, and demonstrates optimism and positive energy in the workplace. 

Education Requirements

BS degree in business, engineering, or related technical discipline is required. MS or MBA desired, but not required
