Embedded Software Development Engineer

Job Description

 

Develop software using established software requirements, development plans,  and test plans for a space-based distributed embedded software system designed to control a multi-axis robotic platform. Development will be performed with VxWorks and Linux development tool suites. Candidate will be teamed with a SW Systems Engineer assisting in all aspects of this task. Develop and document operating software code, design and develop debugging routines, and ensure compliance with SW Configuration Management principles. Software will control the operation of all system electrical components to include power on/off, sensor measurements, system and subsystem health data transmission, algorithm computing, subsystem commanding, and data file construction, labeling, and transmission. Candidate will participate in system testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and quality assurance.

 

Candidate will work in a multi-discipline team environment which ultimately produces a product ready for launch and deployment on a spacecraft.


Job Requirements

The candidate shall have direct embedded software engineering development experience with NASA payloads preferably on board the International Space Station. Embedded software will control the operation and monitoring of electro-mechanical systems to include optical sensors, robotic systems, and avionics systems. Must have experience with embedded software development and software/hardware testing for control feedback mechanical systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in developing software requirements, code development, software/hardware testing, and other verification methods.


Skill Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software life-cycle processes and controls
  • Must be able to develop software using VxWorks and Linux development suites
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software quality assurance methods and practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of embedded software integration with complex electro-mechanical systems
  • BS Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
